Lanbropean (Under the Fog)
Completed, 2011–2016 — 60 photographs, seeking its final form as a book or exhibition
The Basque Country has lived, for over fifty years, with the consequences of an armed conflict fought in the name of self-determination — a conflict that caused much suffering on all sides.
Lanbropean is about the part of that suffering that stayed hidden: banishment, exile, exceptional prison policies, deaths at the hands of the police, right-wing groups, and state-sponsored death squads. Suffering that was rarely named, rarely photographed, rarely allowed into the frame of the official story.
I began this project in 2011, the same year ETA declared the definitive end of its armed activity. It was my first attempt to give visual form to something that had always been present around me but never fully spoken — and it shaped the visual language I still work in today.
